The article is devoted to the study of the state of spatiotemporal distribution of cases of individual weather phenomena that reached the SHE criterion on the territory of Ukraine during the winter months of 2024. Cases of strong wind, blizzards, heavy snowfall, heavy ice and complex deposits were identified. The materials of the “Surveys of Natural Hydrometeorological Phenomena” observed on the territory of Ukraine for individual months were used. It was found that most often in the winter months of this year, cases of very strong wind were observed, which took place in all winter months and late autumn. However, cases with a blizzard were observed only in January in the Ivano-Frankivsk region (Pozhezhevsk) and Odessa region (Zatyshshya). Also, cases of heavy snowfall in the center and west of Ukraine and cases of ice deposits (center and west of Ukraine) and complex deposits (Transcarpathia) were observed on the territory of Ukraine. It has been proven that most often the cases of natural weather phenomena in the cold period were observed in the western regions of Ukraine (Transcarpathia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi), however, some of them were observed in some central (Kirovohrad and Dnipropetrovsk) regions, and sometimes in the south of the country (Odesa, Mykolaiv regions). Cases of mass distribution of certain natural phenomena such as heavy ice in February and heavy snowfalls in November have been established. Cases of complex precipitation of the SGH category were not widespread. It is proven that cases of heavy fog were mostly observed in the cold months of the year and mainly in Transcarpathia.
Some significant results of the study can be highlighted.
The most frequent cases of natural meteorological phenomena occurred in January, February and December.
Among the natural weather phenomena, the most frequent cases were cases of strong wind – 8 cases, heavy snow – 11, heavy ice – 7, heavy complex deposits – 4 and heavy fog, the number of cases of which during the cold period was 19 cases. There were only 3 cases of severe blizzards on the territory of Ukraine during the cold period of the year.
Territorially, cases of natural weather phenomena in the cold period of the year were more often observed in the western regions of Ukraine – Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia.
Among the stations where cases of natural meteorological phenomena were most often recorded were Sl Pozhezhevska and Sl Plai.
For cases of strong wind, it was established that in 2024 such cases were quite widely observed on the territory of Ukraine. The largest number by region was observed in the Rivne region in Sarny. Other cases were observed in the regions of Western Ukraine and in the south of the country.
Cases of severe blizzards were isolated and were observed only in the Ivano-Frankivsk region (Pozhedevsk) and Odessa region (Zatshshya).
Heavy snowfall was most often observed in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. In addition, such cases occurred in Chernihiv, Cherkasy, and Transcarpathia.
Cases of severe ice were observed in some central regions of Kirovohrad and Dnipropetrovsk, but most of them were in Transcarpathia.
There were only 2 cases of complex deposits and they were observed in Transcarpathia in Plai.
Heavy fogs were observed throughout the year in Ukraine, with the exception of March and May. During the cold period of the year, 19 such cases were observed. The largest number of them was observed in Plai.
Massive distribution of severe weather events of the SHР category was only in November (very heavy snowfall) and in February (heavy ice deposits).
