The monograph is devoted to the detection, quantitative and qualitative evaluation of sapropel peloids of Volyn region, as well as the development of applied principles of their protection and medical and health use. The publication systematizes theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of freshwater sapropel peloids. The author’s method of estimating lake sapropel deposits according to the priority of development for recreational and tourist needs is proposed. Considerable attention is paid to the analysis of mineral and organic composition, physical and mechanical properties and sanitary and epidemiological condition of sapropel sediments of lakes. On the basis of the analysis and generalization of the actual material the perspective resources of sapropel peloids are estimated and measures on their protection and rational use are offered.

The basic information on the widespread methods of the chemical analysis of natural waters is stated. Methods and forms of expression and control of the obtained results are considered. Methods of ecological assessment of the quality of natural waters, as well as drinking water and water bodies intended for different types of water use (drinking, cultural, household, fishery) are covered.

The textbook is intended for university students studying “Fundamentals of Hydrochemistry”, “Hydrochemistry” in educational programs in hydrology, specialty “Earth Sciences”.
